Five trees

Updated: Jul 26, 2023

It's currently "Lockdown 3.0" in the UK and what else is there to do than take a healthy walk each day. I am lucky to live in a part of London that is rich in history and I'm so grateful for the wealth of visual treats I encounter on my various wanderings.

When I first moved to SE1 years ago, I used to spend a lot of time walking along the South Bank. Back then - even at the height of summer - it was so much less busy than it has become in recent years, and a part of me really missed that tranquillity. That said, there's obviously something very sad about tranquillity that comes from the impact on life from such an aggressive virus.

I hadn't been along the Thames for several months and found myself meandering along there last week. As I approached the Royal Festival Hall from the east, I was struck by the emptiness around me and in the vistas before me.

And then, all of sudden, as I looked over the wall to the riverside below the Royal Festival Hall, there it was: a display of five trees in a row, wrapped in beautiful neon lights. It was so beautiful that it stopped me in my tracks and inspired me to share the visual treat in this little blog.
