On 13 October 2020, Bene Tally Band Project brought an exceptional evening of music, dance, friendship, love and celebration to HootananNy in Brixton.
The band was initiated by Senegalese master drummer Dembis Thioung, who wanted to merge all of his musical experiences on one stage. Musicians, singers, dundun apprentices and dancers treated the audience to the exhilarating rhythms of West African drums, percussive instruments, guitars and the Guembri.
Audience participation was an integral part of the evening, with dancing and singing along to traditional songs. We also had the honour of watching Simb, the dance of the false lion. Moulaye Diallo leapt among the audience and gave a powerful dance performance, followed by a healing dialogue with Griot musician Batch Gueye. Read more about this inspiring evening on the Hootananny website.
Not surprisingly, we're all really looking forward to Bene Tally Band's next event!
